American Way of Aging: It's a Crock!

Is the American way of aging, getting bogged down in stultifying tradition and outdated conventional wisdom that changed, thank God. But it will be a long time before our culture the guts into the trash, which has no meaning.

At the age of 50 years, an accelerating number of messages, subliminal and otherwise, start attacking your consciousness with the proposal that "the end is near." Everything from invitations to join AARP to dire warnings about impending problems and pitfalls of aging are relentless reminders that you are getting old and senile.

They begin to respond to these messages, you start looking for signs of their own demise search. After enough people to help you begin the process of things you can do for themselves, or they make remarks that suggest they are not as powerful as it used to be tender, your physical and mental competency issue.

You start to think, I "Gee, I think I'm doing great, but I kidding myself? What kind of decline that others see in me that I am not aware of?. Maybe I'm not as good as I think I am. "This kind of thinking is deadly and debilitating. You have to guard against the well-intended but unwanted comments and concerns of others, as well as your own negative self-doubt.

Here's an example of how we contribute to our own demise: A momentary lapse of memory, I am that everyone of all ages experience, results in a panic, "I am a senior moment with." Let say, you are having a "senior moment" has consequences. They say and accept decline doctrine itself. I have never seen a forgetful teen explain away a memory gap with "Oops, I have a teen now. Young people do not sweat the occasional memory lapses. Nor should we.

The advent of the age of 60 fires really the "old" Wrecking Ball. Even before reaching retirement age, we begin to participate in traditional senior activities to only in step with what they think make older friends. It is an introduction to the managerial culture without knowing it. It tells the subconscious that you are disappointed with life going on.

It is indeed good news that more mid-lifers do not buy into the traditional aging process - refusing to slow down, can be consistent to give up, and the traditional lifestyle of senior adopt much more awareness, which is fine. Real progress is not fast enough.

Productive older people often refuse to their age, fear of discrimination based on age or annoying patronizing comments such as "Is not it wonderful for her age?" Older adults should be assessed and for what they estimated, regardless of age.

Productive contribution retirement must help the people, the awareness that productive aging will be accepted on the basis of equality with traditional retirement, and preferably, held as the ideal.

The traditional American way of aging is a pot. You can buy or opt-out of it as you want. Decide the right choice, now, while you still have time.
